When the first of my three children was born I felt an overwhelming urge to make this the healthiest, happiest child that I could, just as most parents do. Based on Abraham Maslow’s “hierarchy of needs”, the quality and quantity of my child’s basic physiological needs became of paramount importance to me: nutrition, exercise, sleep, emotional support. I hoped to lay a sturdy foundation to build a strong, astute, compassionate, confident child with a bright future. And so it began.
In supporting two of my nearest and dearest through their struggles with weight, I dug into my background in Biology for answers on how much of their difficulty might have been averted had they started out with a stronger foundation of healthful choices. We weeded through many different combinations of variables to find the right lifestyle for their health goals until we formulated the right fit….for now. We had to accept that as life evolves, our needs do so too. Keeping my loved ones on a healthful track would be a constant work in progress.
Something was missing. My degree in Biology did not prepare me to recognize the variables that most affect wellness nor how to support people through them. After years of exploring institutions to further my education and bridge the gap, I found the Institute For Integrative Nutrition and graduated with my Nutrition Health Coach certification.
Along the journey to becoming a wellness consultant I compiled a catalog of esteemed professionals, each revered in their respective fields, allowing me to connect my clients with the most fruitful resources.
There is a reason why that current celebrity diet isn’t working for you. When you aren’t achieving the results that you want from exercise, there’s a real reason for that too. While nutrition and exercise are certainly necessary for a healthy lifestyle, there is not a single diet or exercise that is perfect for 100% of humans. While your best friend may look and feel better than ever, her dietary and exercise choices may make you feel physically and emotionally drained. How simple it would be if there was a one-size-fits-all fitness and nutrition plan and that those were the only two factors to consider…but we are not built that simply.
Let’s think of ourselves as unique gems with 12 equally essential facets, where Exercise and Nutrition make up a mere facet each. While all 12 facets represent the same factors for all of us, each looks and feels completely unique to the rest. Keeping in mind that each of our facets is equally significant, can you name the other ten?
As an Integrative Nutrition Health Consultant, my primary focus is guiding you to know all 12 of the major facets of life and how yours affect your very own personal nutrition and health goals. We will work together to set practices that will help you to achieve and adjust those goals in the most supportive and uplifting ways. No judgement here!
